Communication:
Preseason: Preseason prep is crucial to being prepared for the first day of practice. Core workout, easy running, lifting, etc should start today. Distance will hold optional pre-season conditioning starting Monday, March 7th @ 2:45pm and meet every M, W, F until the season starts. Meet near the gym. I strongly encourage anyone thinking of competing in distance events to attend, but if you can’t, be sure you’re doing easy running on your own (30 minutes at an easy pace). I also encourage everyone on the distance team to get the strava app and join the NHS track group so I can see how things are going training-wise. Sprinters Throws Hurdles - core 4-5x per week, hip flexors 3-4x per week, easy run 4-5x per week (I also highly encourage you to attend the distance pre-season conditioning)
Practices Monday-Friday @ 3:15 @ the track. End time will vary by event, but will be no later than 5:15. Distance will be done by 4:30 most days. Saturday @ 10:00am @ the track. Locker rooms will be open this year to change. Please be on the track ready to practice at 3:15. Running shoes/clothes, water, spikes (if you have them) is all you need for practice. A watch is highly recommended but not mandatory. Doesn’t have to be anything special like an apple or gps watch, just something to keep time. Anything not needed for practice (cell phone, airpods, etc) can be left in your bag/backpack for the duration of practice.
Meets Meets typically fall on Tuesday afternoons beginning at 3:45 and are usually about 2 hours long. We will add a few invitationals to the schedule once we find out their dates. Those meets are usually on a Friday or Saturday and are longer than a regular meet. For home meets, we will all meet at the track at 2:45pm for meet setup. For away meets, the bus will leave the track at 2:45pm.
Athletes can compete in up to 4 events per meet. Events are: Relays: 4x100, 4x400, 4x800 Sprints: 100m, 200m, 400m Hurdles: 100/110m, 300m Distance: 800m, 1600m, 3200m Throws: Discus, Shot, Javelin Jumps: Long jump, high jump, triple jump, pole vault
