Track has good showing at Greater Hartford Track Meet

SIMSBURY — The New Britain area produced two winners at the 83rd Greater Hartford outdoor track meet, held at Simsbury High School on Saturday.

Berlin’s Taylor Lupini took first in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 10 ½ inches. Lupini was also eighth in the 300 hurdles. Berlin’s Kristen Madeia took seventh in the 400 while Jodi DiCiccio was ninth in the 800.

Newington’s Wilmarie Rodriguez was first in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 11½ inches.

The Southington boys track and field team finished ninth while Newington tied for 25th with four points.

The top performers for the Blue Knights were Stephen Barmore and Matt Bennett. Barmore top fourth in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 400. Barmore was also on the 4x100 relay team that took fourth, along with Matt Maxwell, Tyler Hyde and Zach Maxwell.

Bennett finished fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Charlie Morelli took fifth in the 110 hurdles while Sean Garrison was seventh in the 3,200 for Southington.

For Newington, Kurt Swenor was fifth in the javelin and tied for 10th in the pole vault. Gregory Zydanowicz was just outside of the Top 10 in the 800, finishing 12th.
